The slain JCO, Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh, and two of the four soldiers killed in action — Naik Mandeep Singh and sepoy Gajjan Singh — were from Punjab. The other two, sepoys Saraj Singh and Vaisakh H, were from UP and Kerala respectively.
